About the Council

Mandate

The Dental Council of PEI is a legislated body mandated to protect the public interest in matters related to dental care.  This mandate is fulfilled by ensuring that only properly trained, qualified, and licensed Dentists and Dental Assistants render dental care treatment, and that the treatment is of a reasonable standard. 

Objectives
  1. To regulate the practices of these dental related occupations with governance in accordance with the Dental Act and its Regulations.
     
  2. To develop, establish, and maintain standards of qualification for persons to be issued a Certificate of Registration.
     
  3. To develop, establish, and maintain programs and standards of practice to assure the quality of practice of registrants.
     
  4. To develop, establish, and maintain standards of knowledge and skill and programs to promote continuing competence among registrants.
     
  5. To develop, establish, and maintain standards of professional ethics for registrants.
     
  6. To develop, establish, and maintain programs to assist registrants to exercise their rights under the Dental Act and its Regulations.
     
  7. To administer the Dental Act and its Regulations as it relates to the registrants and the public and to perform the other duties and exercise the other powers that are imposed or conferred on the Council.  Any other objectives relating to human health care that the Council considers desirable.

The purpose of this Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Access, and Anti-Racism [EDIAA ] policy is to demonstrate the Dental Council's commitment to protecting the interests of the general public by ensuring all equity seeking groups are considered.  This policy is evolving over time and with more understanding of this topic, will be reviewed regularly.

We strive to look for opportunities for personal and professional growth in the area of equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and ant-racism.

We will be open to conversations that address EDIAA issues and personal biases we may hold conscientiously or unconscientiously.
